listen-to-phillip-pettit-on-consequentialism

Listen to  a defence of consequentialism. Here is a 16 minute discussion of Kant compared with the utilitarians, including such questions as: Does consequentialism fail to treat people with dignity as Kant alleges? What makes an action “right”?
Non-consequentialism includes Kantian ethics – which has two broad intuitions – the problem of how integrity can be ignored in appeal to circumstances. The problem of Jim and the Indians is discussed here. The second concern is the concern of respect – the second formulation or principle of ends in Kantian ethics.
